Hirsch Hill Estate

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of Dixson’s creek in Central Victoria, Hirsch Hill Estate is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Hirsch family. Established in 1991, it has served as the foundation for a tradition of excellence in both horse racing and viticulture.

From the estate’s humble beginnings, the Hirsch family has bred and developed award-winning thoroughbred racehorses, including Group 1 Oaks winner Rose Archway.

Seven years after the purchase of the estate, the first grapevines were planted and sewn with them the seeds of success in another endeavour – winemaking. Since then Hirch Hill has created numerous vintages of acclaim, including the 2015 Chardonnay (one of James Halliday’s top value wines of 2018) and Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (awarded a gold medal rating from Winestate Magazine).

A Tradition Of Champions.

Hirsch Hill Estate began life as a thoroughbred breeding operation. In this beautiful slice of pastoral Australia, Jack Hirsch bred numerous steeds of note, including Australian Oaks winner Rose Archway.

The family's involvement in the field of racing goes beyond breeding, with no better example than the annual Jack Hirsch Memorial Yarra Valley Cup. An eagerly awaited event in the Victorian racing calendar, it is a celebration of not only racing but the greater Yarra Valley community. To wit, the race occurs against a backdrop of the very best local food and wine produced in the area. In 2017 this cup was won by Hard Call, a horse owned and bred by the Hirsch family.

Sewing The Seeds Of Success.

In 1998 the Hirsch family made their first foray into viticulture. Along with planting the first vineyards, the family also sewed the first seeds for a legacy of winemaking excellence. Sustained by the cool climate and fertile soil of the Yarra Valley, the estate has produced numerous vintages of note, with Cabernet Sauvignon emerging as a standout variety.

Their contributions to Australian wine have been acclaimed by numerous publications and critics. The 2015 Chardonnay received a 5 star Gold Medal rating from Winestate Magazine and was a finalist in their wine of the Year competition. This vintage was further acknowledged by James Halliday, named is as one of 2018's top value wines.
